Library system update

Libraries Team, 24 May 2024 - Events

Our library system will be updating from late May to early July 2024, and some of our services will be temporarily unavailable, which will impact how library users access them.

Last updated on: 26 June 2024

Offline period: 30 June to 8 July

Buckinghamshire libraries will be open as usual. If you are visiting a library between Sunday 30 June and Monday 8 July, you will need to bring your library card to access some library services as our staff will be unable to access your account.

Thank you for your patience in advance of these service disruptions. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

From 30 June to 8 July - The following services will be offline:

  • Access the online library catalogue for searching
  • Access your library account online
  • Access Spydus Mobile app
  • Call the automated renewal telephone line
  • Pay off fines

Digital library

There may be some disruptions when accessing some digital library resources like BorrowBox, PressReader and Libby between this period.

We suggest that you log in or register to the services before the downtime so you can continue to access and borrow library items there.

Library notices

From 30 June to 8 July - We will not be able to send notices for:

  • Overdue items
  • When you have a library reservation
  • When your library account is expired
  • When you reset your PIN

SELMS reservations

From 24 May to 29 July - Reservations of items from other library authorities from the SELMS Consortium will be not available in this period. However, items that you borrowed before this period can still be returned, and you can also reserve items from libraries in Buckinghamshire.

Note: Your account may not be updated right away if you return items to SELMS libraries outside of Buckinghamshire. You will not have fines if you returned them by the due date.

Buckinghamshire reservations

From 21 June to 8 July - if you have received a notice to collect a reservation you can do so in this period. However, you will not be able to place new reservations.

Available services during offline period

The following services will still be available to you between 30 June and 8 July:

  • Collecting a reservation – where a notice has been received
  • Borrowing library items with a library card
  • Returning library items
  • Joining the library
  • Renew an item – you must return and reissue with a library card
  • Use self-service kiosks to issue and return items
  • Continue to use Libby, PressReader and BorrowBox – if you have problems with these services, we are unable to assist until we are back online
