We’re looking for volunteers to help catalogue Buckinghamshire’s extensive Paralympic archive collections
Buckinghamshire’s Paralympic Collections
Find out about our extensive collections
Buckinghamshire is well-known as the birthplace of the Paralympic movement, with the first Stoke Mandeville Games taking place here in 1948. As part of this international sporting heritage, Buckinghamshire Council Archives and the National Paralympic Heritage Trust hold two extensive collections of archive materials belonging to the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) and WheelPower (The British Wheelchair Sports Foundation).
Become an archive volunteer
We need your help
At present, a lot of the material in these important collections hasn't yet been catalogued, so isn’t available to historians and other researchers.
We’re working to change this – and need your help!
We’re looking for archive volunteers to work with us for at least 3 hours a week at Buckinghamshire Archives in Aylesbury. You’ll need to be familiar with using Microsoft Excel and have good attention to detail.
In your role as archive volunteer, you’ll gain experience of handling and listing historical documents, and get the opportunity to help uncover stories relating to the history of the Paralympic movement.
