Extremism and terrorism
Preventing Terrorism Channel Panel
At Buckinghamshire Council, we host and chair the Channel Multi-Agency Panel. The panel focuses on providing support at an early stage to people who are identified as being susceptible to being drawn into terrorism.
The channel programme is part of the governments' Preventing Terrorism Agenda aims to protect people by:
- identifying individuals at risk of being radicalised early on
- assessing the nature and extent of that risk
- developing support plans for individuals at risk of being radicalised
Legislation
Sections 36 to 41 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 sets out the duty on local authorities and partners of local panels to provide support for people open to being drawn into any form of terrorism.
Escalation policy
Our escalation policy aims to provide clear guidance for professionals who may disagree about the course of action or support plan for people at risk of being drawn into terrorism.
