Apply for money off Council Tax if you care for someone you live with
As a carer you will be disregarded for the purposes of Council Tax if all of the following apply to the person you care for:
- they are not your spouse, partner or child under the age of 18
- they live in the same property as you
- they receive at least 35 hours a week of care on average
- they're in receipt of a qualifying benefit
Qualifying benefits
Qualifying benefits include:
- Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance (highest or middle rate of the care component only)
- Personal Independence Payment (standard or enhanced rate of the daily living component)
- an increase in the rate of their disablement pension
- an increase in Constant Attendance Allowance
Evidence required
You will need to provide proof of the qualifying benefit.
