Funerals arranged by us (public health funerals)

We are entitled to collect all assets belonging to the deceased in order to help offset the costs of the funeral, including the tracing of executors and relatives.

If, after we have deducted the funeral and associated costs:

• the remaining estate is over £500
• there is no known next of kin

We will then refer it to the Government Legal Department (Bona Vacantia).
