Homeless and temporary accommodation
Types of accommodation offered
1. Bed and Breakfast
This is nightly paid temporary accommodation and you may be required to share facilities. All furniture, floor coverings and curtains will be provided by the provider.
Families with dependent children would only normally be placed into bed and breakfast with shared facilities for a very short time whilst alternative self-contained temporary accommodation is sourced.
2. Self-Contained accommodation
Accommodation varies but will be fully self-contained, your housing advisor will advise you if you need to provide your own furniture and other goods.
We do not normally provide any bedding or towels for example or a television. Where you do not have your own goods and furniture, you can get help from the organisations listed here: Helping Hand.
3. Self-contained accommodation from a social housing provider
This will be self-contained accommodation with a Registered Provider (Housing Association). It is not your final offer of accommodation but is provided in partnership with the council and may not be large enough for your family to have their own bedrooms. In this case the provider will issue you with a licence agreement and will help you to make a claim for housing benefit.
The property may be unfurnished, more information is provided below as to who can help you with furniture and goods.
The provider will let you know how much rent you need to pay, this may be covered by housing benefit but you may need to pay some or all of these costs yourself, including any service charge.
