Buckinghamshire Council parks awarded the coveted Green Flag Award

Buckinghamshire Council is celebrating today after receiving prestigious Green Flag Awards for seven of its parks:

  • Bedgrove Park (Aylesbury)
  • Black Park Country Park (Wexham)
  • Heartlands (Buckingham)
  • Higginson Park (Marlow)
  • Hughenden Park (High Wycombe)
  • The Rye (High Wycombe)

Strict judging criteria is used to assess if a park or green space is worthy of being awarded a Green Flag. The judging panel considers a range of factors including:

  • a welcoming place
  • healthy, safe and secure
  • well maintained and clean
  • environmental management
  • biodiversity, landscape and heritage
  • community involvement
  • marketing and communication
  • overall management

Clive Harriss, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said:

“It’s fantastic news that seven of our parks have won Green Flag Awards – the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

“The seven awards are testament to the hard work and dedication of the teams that care for the green spaces so that residents and visitors can enjoy them all year round.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, added:

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Buckinghamshire Council on achieving the Green Flag Awards.

“These parks are vital green spaces for communities in Buckinghamshire to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely and it provides important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.”
