Join the Great British Spring Clean in Bucks and see how one bag can make a big difference!

Buckinghamshire Council is pledging its support to Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’ for another year.

Back for its eighth year, the Great British Spring Clean is the country’s biggest mass action environmental campaign. It encourages people to work collaboratively with community organisations, businesses and councils to collect and safely dispose of litter from local streets, parks and open spaces. This year, the event is taking place between Friday 17 March and Sunday 2 April.

Buckinghamshire Council will be supporting local litter picking events across the county, collecting waste from litter picking activities from an agreed, designated point or residential address, provided groups contact the council in advance. Additionally, free litter pickers and bags will be available to individuals and groups looking to get involved with the campaign.

Last year, during the Great British Spring Clean, Buckinghamshire Council supported litter picking events organised by parish councils, community groups and environmental groups. In total, over 35 organised events took place in the county, with more than 300 #LitterHeroes collecting more than 800 bags of litter.

Be a part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean:

Gareth Williams, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment, said:

“The Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic way for the local community to come together and make a positive impact on the environment in their local area. This year’s theme ‘One bag, big difference’ carries forward from 2022 and demonstrates that whatever small change you make to better the environment, it all adds up to a big difference – and that’s what counts!

“We all know the benefits getting outdoors can have on our physical and mental wellbeing, so it’s important for us to take care of our local parks and green spaces so that we may continue to enjoy them for a long time to come.

“And the Great British Spring Clean is not the only way you can make a difference in your local area. The Litter Lotto app is also a great way for residents to make a difference in their local community while also being in with a chance of winning a weekly national prize of £1,000 and a monthly Buckinghamshire prize of £250! Over 30,000 pieces of litter have been binned in Buckinghamshire via LitterLotto since November 2022, and the Great British Spring Clean is a great chance to see those numbers soar.

Download the LitterLotto app and simply take a photo of you throwing some litter into a bin for the opportunity to win. Every piece of litter picked can count towards the prize draw, and with two chances to win with every entry (either on the national or local prize) – you really do just have to bin it to win it!”
