More funding for EV charging points in Buckinghamshire
Buckinghamshire Council has been successful in their largest ever single funding bid for money to increase the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Buckinghamshire, surging forward towards the aims of their EV Action Plan.
After successfully securing £407k from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) via their On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS), the council will now be able to install 128 new EV parking bays across the county – with work being completed by April 2023.
The EV charging points will be provided by BP Pulse, who have provided match funding of £261k. Buckinghamshire Council has also contributed £10k from their Capital Funding Programme.
Steven Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:
“It’s fantastic news that we’ve been successful in our funding bid, and the new charging bays will help us reach our target of 1,000 publicly-accessible EV charging spaces in Buckinghamshire by 2027.
“It’s also another example of the extent of the work we’re doing to tackle climate change here in Buckinghamshire – and is timely good news after COP27 brought into sharp focus again the global climate challenges we all face.”
The new funding will add EV charging points in 16 council-managed public car parks across Buckinghamshire (four charging points per location), including Beaconsfield, Buckingham, Gerrards Cross and High Wycombe.
As of 1 October 2022, there were 210 publicly-accessible EV chargepoints in Buckinghamshire (owned by various operators). The new OZEV/ORCS installation project will increase the number of publicly-accessible EV charging points in the county by an impressive 30%.
