Neurodiversity Celebration Week – a reminder of the support available in Buckinghamshire
Buckinghamshire Council is marking Neurodiversity Celebration Week (17 to 23 March 2025) by promoting the support available for local families of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The Council’s SEND Local Offer connects families to a wealth of resources, including the Autism Toolbox and the Autism Early Support (AES) Portal. These tools offer practical guidance and support to help families and carers of children and young people with SEND, including those with neurodiverse conditions.
It is estimated that 1 in 7 people in the UK are neurodivergent and with 11.4% of school-age children in Buckinghamshire receiving SEN support, the demand for guidance and resources continues to grow. The SEND Local Offer provides clear, accessible information on education, health, social care, and financial support, with dedicated tools for neurodivergent children, including the Autism Toolbox and the AES Portal.
Supporting Families with Accessible SEND Information
Families navigating the SEND system can often feel overwhelmed by complex processes and a lack of clear guidance. The SEND Local Offer simplifies this by offering:
- The Autism Toolbox – A practical guide for parents, carers, and schools supporting autistic children.
- The AES Portal – A specialist platform providing learning resources for neurodivergent young people.
- The SEND Local Offer Directory – A searchable directory of local organisations, services and activities that support children and young people with SEND.
More Than a Week
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is about recognising, valuing, and supporting neurodivergent individuals. Buckinghamshire Council remains committed to ensuring that every family knows where to turn for SEND support; not just this week, but all year round.
