New Traffic Calming Measures Transform Castlefield area of High Wycombe
A Safer, Quieter Community Unveiled!
Buckinghamshire Council has now completed the new traffic calming measures in the Castlefield area of High Wycombe as part of ‘Opportunity Bucks’, the Council’s flagship programme to improve lives and outcomes in ten wards in the county where residents are experiencing the most hardship.
The Opportunity Bucks programme focuses on wards where outcomes for residents, from health to employment, aren’t as good as in other parts of the county and aims to address this disparity by taking specific actions in these locations to improve the lives and experiences of the residents living there. Opportunity Bucks directly involves the residents in these ten wards, who pinpoint what would make the most difference in their area.
In Castlefield, tackling anti-social driving was outlined as a priority by the community. Residents there have been subjected to significant anti-social driving with police reporting repeated occurrences. As a result, the council has now installed a comprehensive traffic calming scheme to deter speeding and dangerous driving along six key roads in the area and near to Castlefield School, also enhancing children’s safety on their way to and from the school.
Yesterday, Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire Council, announced the completion of the £1.1 million traffic calming scheme in Castlefield. “We have worked in close collaboration with the local community through public consultation. I hope the residents of Castlefield are soon feeling the significant benefits from the programme and this project in their area.”
Steven Broadbent is Buckinghamshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport. He said: “This is the sort of work our Highways teams carry out that really does have a positive impact on a local community. Introducing measures like this should be extremely effective in stopping motorists speeding on these routes and will make the whole area much safer for pedestrians and all road users, also hopefully lessening associated noise with speeding vehicles too. I would like to thank our Buckinghamshire Highways team who also completed a litter pick in the area in late November.”
Arif Hussain, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, highlighted the success of the 'Opportunity Bucks' initiative in Castlefield. “We know that residents in some parts of the county don’t experience the same access to opportunity as in other places and that there are also negative impacts on their quality of life. Opportunity Bucks has delivered numerous projects, events, and campaigns, including community action days and skills and jobs fairs; and the measures in Castlefield are another example of what we’re delivering through this programme. I would like to thank our partners and the residents of Castlefield for their support.
