Luton Airport expansion
Introduction
To increase passenger numbers, an expansion of Luton Airport was proposed by London Luton Airport Limited (now trading as Luton Rising).
There was a preferred option for a second terminal to be built north of the runway, but this was delayed in May 2021 due to the challenges around Covid-19.
Rather than being completed in 2041 as initially proposed the expansion was due for completion nearer 2045.
Changes to the expansion plans were brought about by feedback from two public consultations. The comments received highlighted a desire for the airport to consider climate change and the environmental impact.
