Apply to put materials on the public highway

You’ll need a licence if you want to temporarily put materials on the public highway, such as:

• buildings materials
• Biffa bins

If you're unsure if the area where you want to put materials is private, you can check the check the list of streets we manage.

To apply for a licence, you’ll need to:

• upload a copy of your public liability insurance certificate (minimum £10 million)
• upload a copy of the location map

The cost of a licence is £132.

Your application will not be processed if you do not submit the required supporting documents.

If you've already put materials on the public highway, you can apply for a licence retrospectively.

The cost for a retrospective licence is £258.

Applications will take 4 weeks to complete, providing all documents are submitted.

The licence will be valid for 28 calendar days.
