When we receive your application, and you've paid all the initial fees, we'll allocate it to an Officer for a technical review in accordance with:
We'll usually contact you within 4 to 6 weeks with our initial feedback.
Further technical reviews
Our initial fee covers up to 3 technical reviews.
We charge for each additional technical review, paid in advance.
Highlight changes on updated drawings
When you give us updated drawings, ensure you highlight changes from previous versions using a red cloud.
You need to give us a written response for each individual comment via the document we give you.
If your development needs street lighting

The completion of works and the maintenance period
- the works are completed
- our Highways Development Management Inspector is happy with the work
- the developer arranges for the relevant teams to:
- sign off the traffic signals
- sign off the street lighting
- sign off the structure
- we agree to bring the assets onto maintenance
- our Inspector will send a Provisional Certificate to the developer
- the developer must maintain the road for:
- 12 months for Section 38 or 278
- 24 months for Section 184
- the developer needs to give us:
- as built drawings
- drainage vesting certificates
- wayleaves and easements
- oversail licenses
- planting licenses
- structures licences
- Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs)
- streetlighting electrical safety certificates
- Buckinghamshire Highways lighting acceptance certificate
- Buckinghamshire Highways traffic signal acceptance
The end of the maintenance period and the payment of all fees
- The end of the maintenance period
- the developer needs to email us to request inspection
- the developer arranges for the relevant teams to:
- sign off the traffic signals
- sign off the street lighting
- sign off the structure
- we agree to adopt the assets
- our Inspectors accept the assets or confirm if further remedial action is needed
- the developer confirms receipt of the required documents and arranges payment of commuted sums and any outstanding fees
- we send the final certificate
- we return any remaining deposit or bond

You need to colour assets on as built drawings as follows:
- Carriageway Blacktop – Burnt Umber (light Brown)
- Carriageway Block paving – Yellow
- Carriageway Permeable paving (Infiltration) – Pink
- Carriageway Permeable paving (Tanked) – White
- Footway Blacktop – Neutral tint (light steely blue)
- Footway Block Paving – Orange
- Verge – Green
- Drainage (storm) – Blue
- Streetlights – Red
- Tactile Paving - Purple
