Local development scheme

The Buckinghamshire Local Development Scheme (LDS) sets out our work for the main planning policy documents we aim to prepare over the next 3 years.

These documents form part of the Development Plan for Buckinghamshire.

The LDS explains:

• what local plans we will work on
• what will be in the plans and where they will apply
• how long it will take us to prepare the plans
• what kind of plans they are

This LDS covers the period between 2025 to 2028.

Buckinghamshire Council is required to produce development plans which set out planning policies for the local area.

These plans also allocate areas for future development and identify areas that should be protected from development.

The development plan usually includes:

• local plans
• minerals and waste plans
• neighbourhood plans

A local plan shows where development can happen, and where it needs to be carefully controlled, such as in protected places.

Our local plan aims to deliver sustainable development in a number of ways, including:

• meeting the social, economic, and environmental needs of Buckinghamshire
• better quality places
• more comprehensive and predictable delivery of all kinds of infrastructure
• making sure there are enough of the right homes and workplaces
• getting the infrastructure in the right place at the right time
• delivering better deals from developers on the obligations arising from their proposal

The Council has begun work on the Local Plan for Buckinghamshire.

To date we have done the following:

• Three Call for Sites engagement exercises
• Vision and Objectives consultation
• Gather evidence to support the preparation of the plan

We have set out an update to the timescales for each of the stages we are working to below:

There are a number of Made Neighbourhood Plans and plans being prepared within Buckinghamshire. A list of these plans can be found on our Neighbourhood planning page.

There is also a Minerals and Waste Local Plan for Buckinghamshire, which was adopted July 2019. Further information in regard to this can be found on our Minerals and Waste page.
