Travel plans for new developments: developer guidance
Travel plans are long-term management strategies that are required for most new commercial and residential developments of 100 dwellings or more.
What to include
Developer travel plans should include a:
- description of the development
- baseline survey of the residents/staff/visitors (a baseline survey is done at the beginning of the project so we can measure success)
- named travel plan coordinator
- realistic set of objectives appropriate to the site
- clear action plan of measures to encourage use of sustainable transport
- plan to reduce single occupancy car use by at least 10% within the first 5 years of occupation (known as a ‘SMART’ target)
- commitment to monitor and review the travel plan
Fees
There is a 5 year fee for developers of £5,350.
Included in your fee, we provide:
- a list of suggested initiatives for travel plan coordinators
- support for the travel plan through regular newsletters and campaign resources
A breakdown of charges is provided in the guidelines.
Please note that the travel plan monitoring fees are not correct within the current guidelines. These are being updated and we will be publishing the updated guidelines soon.
