Apply to remove hedgerows

Under the Hedgerow regulations 1997, it is against the law to remove most countryside hedgerows without permission. Read more about hedgerow regulations on GOV.UK.

You can apply to remove a hedgerow by making a hedgerow removal notice application.

This is applied for in the same way as other applications.

We will assess the hedgerow and decide that either:

• you can remove the hedgerow
• you cannot remove the hedgerow (and issue a Hedgerow Retention Notice)

If we decide that you cannot remove the hedgerow, you can appeal our decision on GOV.UK.
