Privacy and Blue Badge

This Privacy Notice explains how the Blue Badge service at Buckinghamshire Council (the data controller) will use the personal information we collect about you when you use this service.

We can hold the following information on you:

• your name
• contact details, telephone number and email address
• date of birth and age
• gender
• National Insurance Number
• previous Blue Badge details
• previous address (if you have moved in the last three years)
• proof of identity (photograph)
• proof of address
• any other personal information in your supporting documentation.

If you make an application for Blue Badge, we may hold the following additional information:

• medical evidence
• Department for Work and Pensions benefits evidence

We need your information to:

• ensure our database is accurate for the administration of Blue Badges in line with current Department for Transport guidelines.
• administer your Blue Badge application. This may include a mobility assessment where additional information may be requested.
• to contact you to arrange payment if you are eligible for a Blue Badge.

The legal bases for processing the data under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 are:

• Article 6(1)(e) We need it to perform a Public Task
• Article 9(2)(g) Substantial public interest

We may ask to use information already held by the Council to assist with assessing your eligibility and processing your application. Our legal basis for this is:

• Article 6(1)(a) your consent

We will always ask you if we are relying on consent. You can remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting [email protected].

We will share your information, if appropriate, with:

• other relevant Council services, other local authorities, Blue Badge Fraud Initiative, the police, and parking enforcement officers to detect and prevent fraud
• government departments or agencies, to validate proof of entitlement or as otherwise required by law or is necessary for the operation and administration of the Blue Badge scheme
• relevant Council services, such as council tax or social services, to assist determining your eligibility and processing your application

We will securely hold your information and only keep it for as long as is necessary. Where information is no longer needed it will be confidentially disposed of.
